Natalee Ann Holloway was an 18-year-old American girl whose strange disappearance made international headlines on May 30, 2005, near the end of a high school graduation trip to the Caribbean island of Aruba. Her classmates last saw her outside of Carlos’n Charlie’s, an Oranjestad restaurant and nightclub.

She was in a car with Joran van der Sloot, Deepak and Satish Kalpoe, and other locals. When questioned, the three guys stated that they dropped Holloway off at her hotel and denied knowing what happened to her.

Authorities detained Van der Sloot twice on suspicion of being involved in her disappearance, while the Kalpoes were arrested three times each.

Due to a lack of evidence, the three suspects were each freed without being charged.
