Van der Sloot and Uceda met inside the prison while the latter was selling goods.
They married on July 4, 2014, and have a daughter, Dushy van der Sloot, who was born in Peru on September 28, 2014.
When they married, Uceda was already seven months pregnant with Dushy.
Van der Sloot escaped to Chile, where he was captured and deported back to Peru for questioning over Flores’ murder on 30 May 2010 – five years to the day after Holloway’s abduction.

On June 7, 2010, he admitted to bludgeoning Flores.
He later attempted to legally revoke his confession, claiming that the Peruvian police had intimidated him and that he had been framed by the FBI.
On June 25, 2010, a Peruvian judge concluded that the confession was legitimate, and on January 13, 2012, Van der Sloot was sentenced to 28 years in jail for Flores’ murder.
In January 2023, an additional 18 years were added to his sentence for cocaine trafficking while incarcerated.
On 10 May 2023, Holloway’s mother announced in a statement that Van der Sloot will be extradited to the United States.
