Joe Kapp died at the age of 85 on May 8th, 2023. Joe Kapp was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in February 2016, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
Joe Kapp began his professional career with the Calgary Stampeders and the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League (CFL), and then moved on to the National Football League (NFL) with the Minnesota Vikings and the Boston Patriots
Joe Kapp returned to his alma mater as Golden Bears head coach from 1982 to 1986. In 1990, he was the general manager and president of the BC Lions.

Joe Kapp is a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame, the Wall of Fame of the BC Lions, the College Football Hall of Fame, and the University of California Athletic Hall of Fame.
Kapp was named to the Honour Roll of the CFL’s top 50 players of the modern era by Canadian sports network TSN in November 2006.
Sports Illustrated once referred to him as “The Toughest Chicano.” Kapp is the only quarterback to have appeared in the Super Bowl, Rose Bowl, and Grey Cup.
