Lang Lang underwent surgery to repair the tendons in his arm, which involved a complex and delicate procedure that required the insertion of metal screws to hold the tendons in place.
After the surgery, Lang Lang spent several months in rehabilitation, which involved extensive physical therapy and exercises designed to help him regain his strength and range of motion.

In an interview with the New York Times in 2018, Lang Lang discussed the challenges he faced during his recovery, describing the process as “like learning to walk again.”
He also credited his injury with helping him to develop a deeper appreciation for the physical and emotional demands of playing the piano at a high level.
Despite the challenges he faced, Lang Lang made a full recovery and returned to the stage in early 2018. He has since continued to perform and tour extensively.
