Alex Carey took his own life in 1987. Members of his family speculated that his reasons included significant financial losses from that year’s stock market crash and a battle with depression in his final years.

Gabrielle recently wrote about her father, Alex Carey’s, suicide.

In a December article in The Sydney Morning Herald, she stated that he died on the day he turned 64, the same age as her.

Gabrielle stated:

‘I became terrified of that number,’

‘If I have inherited my father’s disposition for depression, did that mean I would also end up in an early grave?’
