Gabrielle Carey’s net worth is unknown. She is best known for co-writing the Australian coming-of-age novel Puberty Blues. However, multiple online sources estimate her net worth at $5 million at the time of her death.

Dr. Carey wrote ten books, the most recent of which was Only Happiness Here: In Search of Elizabeth von Arnim, published in 2020, and Falling Out of Love with Ivan Southall, published in 2018.

Moving Among Strangers: Randolph Stow and My Family, her 2013 book, shared the 2014 Prime Minister’s Award for Non-Fiction and was nominated for the National Biography Award.

Carey, who was born on January 10, 1959, and her co-author Kathy Lette wrote the largely autobiographical novel when they were teenagers.

It received both critical and popular acclaim for its candid depictions of sexism in 1970s Sydney surf and youth culture.

The book was released in 1979 and was adapted into a film two years later. The novel was adapted into a television series in 2012, which aired for two seasons.

Carey was a regular contributor to The Australian, among other publications, and was born in Sydney.

She also recently wrote about her father, Alex Carey’s suicide.

Waiting Room, her second memoir, is about her mother, Joan, who died of cancer in 2009.

Moving Among Strangers, Carey’s family memoir, was a co-winner of the 2014 Prime Minister’s Literary Award for non-fiction.

Only Happiness Here, her 2020 book, was nominated for the prestigious 2021 Nib Literary Award.

Carey has also lectured at the University of Sydney, the University of Technology Sydney, and the University of Canberra.

Carey passed away on May 3, 2023. Her age was 64.

Bridgette, her daughter, and Jimmy, her son, survive her.
