Jordan Neely was a 30 years old subway busker and Michael Jackson impersonator who was choked to death by a stranger on a New York City subway while experiencing a mental health crisis on May 1, 2023.

According to witnesses, Neely was acting “hostile and erratic” and exclaimed, “I don’t have food, I don’t have a drink, I’m fed up.” and “I don’t mind going to jail and being sentenced to life in prison.” “I’m prepared to die.”
The Marine tackled Neely and choked him until he was unconscious. Neely was rushed to Lenox Hill Hospital and pronounced dead. The unidentified man was questioned by police but released without charges.

A witness, freelance journalist Juan Alberto Vazquez, captured the incident on video. Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan District Attorney, is investigating the death.
The medical examiner’s office determined the cause of death to be homicide on May 3, stating that Neely died from “compression of the neck.”
Friends and family said Jordan Neely fell into a deep depression after his mother was brutally murdered by his stepfather in 2007 when he was only 14 years old and was not properly treated for his mental illness.
