Miles Dabord grew up in the same household as Bison Dele, and the two brothers had a close relationship in their childhood years. However, their relationship began to deteriorate as they grew older.
Miles Dabord was present on the “Hakuna Matata,” along with Bison Dele, Serena Karlan, and Bertrand Saldo when the four set sail from Tahiti on July 6, 2002.
After the boat was discovered abandoned in the South Pacific with no sign of the passengers, Miles Dabord became the primary suspect in the case.

Dabord, the only first-person source of information in the case, overdosed on insulin and went into a coma. Dabord died in a California hospital on September 27, 2002.
Miles Dabord claimed that he and his brother had fought and that Karlan was accidentally hit and killed when her head struck a part of the boat.
When Saldo attempted to report her death, a panicked Dele shot him; Dabord then shot his brother in self-defence, threw the bodies overboard, and fled back to the United States.
If Dabord’s story is true, that Dele wanted to kill Saldo and that Dabord had to shoot Dele in self-defence, it does not explain why Dabord allegedly threw all three bodies overboard and then purposefully overdosed on insulin instead of telling authorities what had happened.
