She began her career in the media when she was in her senior year at Emerson College. She worked as a reporter for Channel One News from January to February 2001 and reported on Earthquakes, NATO, and more. She even interviewed President George W. Bush during that time.

In 2002, she was employed by Entertainment Tonight as a correspondent. She reported on movies, music, and fashion, but left in 2005.
Menounos made her debut appearance in cinema when she appeared in an episode of One on One in 2004. She also appeared in Fantastic Four and played the role of a nurse romanced by Human Torch, played by Chris Evans.
When she was only 17 years old, she produced her first independent film dubbed Land of Merry Misfits. During that time she was still in college (Emerson College), and the movie was directed by her current husband Keven Undergaro.
Some of her other movies and tv shows during the early stage of her career include Scrubs: Episode (My Extra Mile), Kickin’ It Old School, Clash of the Choirs, and more.
She was also a contestant on the Season 14 of Dancing With the Stars, partnering with Derek Hough. Unfortunately, they were eliminated on May 15, 2012.
In March 2014, she premiered her reality tv show Chasing Maria Menounos on Oxygen Network, hosted a one-hour radio show on SiriusXM called Conversation with Maria on Stars 109, and also hosted the reunion show for season one of The Challenge: All Star in June 2021.
