What happened to John Wright (Film Editor)?

American film editor, John Wright has died after years of battling prostate and bone cancer. He died at the age of 79 in his home in Calabasas on April 20, 2023.

Wright began his career as an editor at KABC-TV right after graduating from Van Nuys High School. He also worked on National Geographic and Jacques Costeau specials during the early stages of his career.

Some of his popular movies include Convoy (1978), The Running Man (1987), Necessary Roughness (1991), Broken Arrow (1996), X-Men (2000), Glory Road, and Frances, Gleaming the Cube, Secretariat, Heaven Is for Real,  Marvel’s The Incredible Hulk (2008).

In 1989, he was nominated for Emmy Award for Best Editing for the movie, My Name Is Bill W. Wright also received an Oscar nomination for Speed by Jan de Bont, and The Hunt for Red October, one of the movies he edited for John McTiernan.

During the early stages of his career, he worked as an editor on Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) and The Bad News Bears (1976). Acapulco Gold and Dogs was his first feature film as a major film editor
