Dave Hakstol coaching history: Where did Dave Hakstol coach?

David “Dave” Hakstol is a Canadian professional ice hockey coach and the current head coach of the National Hockey League’s Seattle Kraken (NHL). Hakstol previously coached at the Sioux City Musketeers, the University of North Dakota men’s ice hockey team, the Philadelphia Flyers and Canada’s national men’s team.

Hakstol attended the University of North Dakota and played hockey there from 1989 to 1992.

In 2000, Hakstol joined his alma mater, North Dakota, as an assistant coach. He was named head coach in 2004.

He led North Dakota to the NCAA Frozen Four seven times during his tenure as head coach. Hakstol was named conference coach of the year in 2009 and 2015, and he was a finalist for national coach of the year eight times.

On May 18, 2015, it was announced that Hakstol would become the Philadelphia Flyers’ 19th head coach.

On April 11, 2017, it was announced that Hakstol would join Jon Cooper, Gerard Gallant, and Dave King as coaches of Canada’s men’s national ice hockey team for the 2017 IIHF World Championship tournament.

On December 17, 2018, the Flyers relieved Hakstol as the head coach of the team after a 12–15–4 start to the 2018–19 season.

On June 29, 2019, Hakstol was hired as assistant head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

On June 24, 2021, Hakstol was hired as the first head coach in the history of the Seattle Kraken.
