Roy Norris Wood Jr. is a stand-up comedian, radio personality, actor, producer, podcaster, and writer from the United States.

He is the son of Roy Wood Sr. and Joyce Dugan Wood. His father, Roy Wood Sr., was a Birmingham, Alabama, radio broadcasting and journalism pioneer who covered, among other things, the civil rights movement, racism faced by African-American soldiers in the Vietnam War, the Soweto uprising, and the Rhodesian Bush War.

Roy Norris Wood Jr.’s mother Joyce Dugan Wood was a college administrator. His paternal three-times great-grandfather, Sam Wood, was born in Africa around 1790.

After his parents divorced, Wood moved to Memphis, Tennessee, to live with his mother. When Wood was in the second grade, his parents reconciled and moved to Birmingham, where they lived on South Park Road in Birmingham’s West End neighbourhood.

Roy L. Wood, a news anchor, is his half-brother. Roy Norris Wood Jr.’s father died of prostate cancer in Birmingham, Alabama, at the age of 80.
