Taini Jamison husband: Was Taini Jamison married?

Legendary former Silver Ferns coach Taini Jamison was married to Tom Jamison. They met in Horohoro, near Rotorua during one of her several postings as a qualified teacher.

Sadly, Taini’s love life with her husband was cut short just three months after they tied the knot. Her husband died after an accident on the basketball court.

At the time he died, she was already pregnant. She named her son Tom Jamison Jr., after her late husband.

Taini has become of interest following her death which occured on 28 April 2023. She was 95 years.

Who was Taini Jamison?

Born on 23 February 1928, Taini Maremare Jamison’s (OBE) passion for netball began at a young age. A member of the Rotorua representative team, which won the national championships, she was also selected for the North Island team three times.

Taini retired from competition in 1959 and spent the next ten years coaching the Rotorua team.

Jamison coached the New Zealand netball team to victory at the World Netball Championships in Perth, Australia, in 1967.

In 1971, despite the fact that the New Zealand team had been away from home for nearly four months, she coached them to second place in the 1971 World Netball Championships in Jamaica.

She was the first Mori coach of the New Zealand netball team and is its most successful coach, with a 90% win rate.

Jamison has been involved with Netball Rotorua for nearly her entire adult life, serving as its president from 1981 to 2001.

In her honor, the Taini Jamison Trophy, contested between New Zealand and visiting international teams other than Australia was named after her.
