Darnell Nurse was born in Hamilton, Ontario, on February 4, 1995, to Richard Nurse and Cathy Nurse

His father, Richard Nurse is a former wide receiver in the Canadian Football League (CFL) from Canada. He was drafted in the third round of the 1990 CFL Draft by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Richard Nurse was born in Trinidad and Tobago and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. He was a Canisius Golden Gryphons football player in college. Darnell’s mother, Cathy, was a college basketball player for the McMaster Marauders.

Kia, his sister, currently plays in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) for the Seattle Storm. She was a member of the Canadian national team and won two NCAA championships with the Connecticut Huskies.

Sarah Nurse, his cousin, won a gold medal with the Canadian national ice hockey team at the 2018 Winter Olympics and a silver medal with the team in 2022. Donovan McNabb, his uncle, was an NFL quarterback who made six Pro Bowls and had his number retired by the Philadelphia Eagles.
