Marcia Gay Harden is an American actress best known for her work in film, television, and theater.

Marcia Gay Harden was born in the La Jolla neighbourhood of San Diego, California, to Texas natives Beverly Harden a housewife, and Thad Harold Harden a United States Navy officer. Her family consists of three sisters and one brother.
Marcia Gay Harden’s brother, father, and ex-husband are all named Thaddeus. Because of her father’s job, Harden’s family moved frequently, residing in Japan, Germany, Greece, California, and Maryland.
In 1976, Harden graduated from Surrattsville High School in Clinton, Maryland. In 1980, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in theatre from the University of Texas at Austin.

In 1988, Harden earned a Master of Fine Arts from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Marcia Gay Harden’s first film role was in 1986, and her breakthrough came in the 1990 Coen brothers-directed Miller’s Crossing. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2000 for her portrayal of artist Lee Krasner in the biographical film Pollock. She was nominated for a second Academy Award for her role as Celeste Boyle in the drama film Mystic River (2003).
