Mike Pride Cause of Death

Mike Pride, a New Hampshire-based author and journalist died Monday, April 24 2023, in Florida with his family by his side. He died at the age of 76 from a long-standing blood disorder.

Mike Pride was the author or co-author of several books on the American Civil War and World War II.

Mike Pride became managing editor of the Concord Monitor in 1978 and editor in 1983. The  Concord Monitor received significant national attention during Pride’s tenure at the publication.

In 1987, he received the National Press Foundation’s Editor of the Year Award for overseeing coverage of the death of Teacher in Space Project astronaut Christa McAuliffe, a longtime Concord resident, in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster.

He was a four-time Pulitzer Prize juror before becoming a member of the Pulitzer Prize Board for 9 years, ending as co-chair in April 2008.

Mike Pride left the Monitor in 2008 but returned in early 2014 to serve as editor during a management transition before leaving again in May. From September 2014 to July 2017, he was the administrator of the Pulitzer Prize.

Mike Pride is survived by his wife of 53 years Monique Pride and their three sons.
