Diego Llorente missed out on selection for Spain’s World Cup squad. On 24 May 2021, Diego Llorente was included in Luis Enrique’s 24-man squad for UEFA Euro 2020.

On 31 January 2023, Llorente joined Serie A club A.S. Roma on loan until 30 June with an option to buy.
