Donny’s father George was a World War II veteran who worked in real estate, insurance, and as the postmaster of Ogden, Utah.
He enjoyed singing and taught his children how to sing barbershops harmoniously. The children’s natural talent was recognised by the public, resulting in frequent appearances at church functions and local civic events.
As his children’s fortunes improved, Osmond stepped away from his career to focus on the family’s musical interests. He relocated the family to California to be closer to the heart of the entertainment industry, then returned them to Utah once they had achieved mainstream fame.

Donny’s mother Olive Osmond died on May 9, 2004, at the age of 79. George Osmond, his father, died on November 6, 2007, at the age of 90.
Before George Osmond died, plans were in the works for him and the Osmond family’s 120-plus members to appear on The Oprah Winfrey Show to commemorate the family’s 50th anniversary in show business.
He died only a few days before the taping. The family eventually decided to go ahead with the show as planned, and on November 9, the entire Osmond family appeared on stage with Oprah Winfrey to pay tribute to their father.
