Bob Berry (American football) Obituary

Bob Berry was a former American professional football player who spent twelve seasons as a National Football League (NFL) quarterback.

Bob Berry died on Wednesday, April 19 2023,  at the age of 81. Berry’s death was announced by Oregon athletics, but no cause was given.

Bob Berry was born and raised in San Jose, California, and attended Willow Glen High School, where his father was a long-time head coach. After graduating in 1960, he played college football at Oregon.

Bob Berry was drafted in the 11th round of the 1964 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles and in the 26th round of the 1964 AFL draft by the Denver Broncos, but he played his senior year at UO and signed with the Minnesota Vikings, who traded for his draft rights.

Berry played three seasons for the Vikings before being traded to the Atlanta Falcons in 1968. He started 51 games for the Falcons over five seasons, throwing for 8,489 yards and 57 touchdowns and being named to the Pro Bowl in 1969.

Berry received the University of Oregon’s distinguished alumnus award in 1985. He was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 1987 and was a member of the University of Oregon Athletics Hall of Fame’s inaugural class in 1992.
