Barry Humphries started his career in the ’50s after he joined the Melbourne Theatre Company right after completing University. It was during that era that he created one of his most amazing characters, Edna Everage.

He moved to Sydney to join the Phillip Street Theatre in 1957 and made his first major appearance in a satirical revue, Two to One which also starred Max Oldaker.

In 1959, he moved to London and worked there throughout the 1960s. He gradually became friends with top leading members of the British Comedy Scene which included Dudley Moore, Peter Cook, Alana Benett, Jonathan Miller, and more.

Humphries also made several appearances in numerous stage play productions by West End including Oliver! and Maggie May musicals by Lionel Bart.

The comedian who is most notable for writing and playing his on-stage and television alter egos, Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson.
