When did Marcel Hug start his career?

Marcel Hug developed interest in wheelchair racing at a very young ag because he was born with spina bifida, a form of spinal chord injuries.

A sports teacher in his school bought his an old racing wheelchair when he was just 10 years old. He competed in his first race that same year and was part of the Schenkon Marathon which he won.

After his victory, he took wheelchair racing very serious and decided to pursue it as a career. He joined the Swiss Paraplegic Center in Nottwi, and teamed up with his trainer Paul Odermatt.

He competed in his first world class international race in 2004, when he was selected to represent Switzerland at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens even though he was not part of the national team setup.
