Tony Shalhoub Parents: Meet Joe Shalhoub, Helen Shalhoub

Tony Shalhoub is an American actor known for his performances on stage and screen. He is the son of Joe Shalhoub and Helen Shalhoub.

Tony Shalhoub, the ninth of ten children, was born and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin, in a Lebanese Maronite family.

His father, Joseph was born in Mount Lebanon during the Ottoman Empire and immigrated to the United States as a child after his parents, Milhelm and Mariam, died during World War I

After moving to America, Joe Shalhoub worked as a meat peddler and truck driver. Joe married Shalhoub’s mother, Lebanese-American Helen Seroogy.

They met when Joe was taken in to be raised by her family when they were both children. The Seroogy family ran a candy store, which is still in operation today.

Abdul Naimy, one of Shalhoub’s maternal great-great-grandfathers, was reportedly crucified in 1895 during the Hamidian massacres against Christian Armenians in the Ottoman Empire, despite being Lebanese.

Tony Shalhoub got his start in acting thanks to his older sister, who suggested he be an extra in a high school production of The King and I. Tony Shalhoub has since received various accolades including five Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, six Screen Actors Guild Awards, and a Tony Award.
