The Marvelous Mrs Maisel is an American period comedy-drama television series created by Amy Sherman-Palladino that debuted on Amazon Prime Video on March 17, 2017.

Several characters in The Marvelous Mrs Maisel are based on real people. Midge Maisel from The Marvelous Mrs Maisel was inspired by the famous comedian and actress Joan Rivers.

Lenny Bruce played by Luke Kirby is based on the real-life comedian of the same name, Sophie Lennon’s character is based on Phyllis Diller and Alex Borstein’s character, Susie, is based on female talent agent Sue Mengers.

The show is set in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It follows Midge Maisel’s character, a contented housewife on New York’s Upper West Side, who discovers she has a talent for stand-up comedy and decides to pursue a career in it.

The series has also received positive reviews from critics. It won the Golden Globe Award for Best Musical or Comedy Series in 2017 and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2018, with Sherman-Palladino receiving awards for Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Writing at the latter ceremony.
