Born on January 20, 2004, in Las Colinas, Texas, Black went to Coppell High School, where he averaged 16.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2 steals per game, and was named second-team all-area.

Black also attended Duncanville High School, where he appeared in 15 games, averaging13.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.2 steals per game.
Black became a five-star recruit and began his collegiate career at the University of Arkansas.
As a freshman at Arkansas, he played at the Maui Invitational Tournament, and averaged 22 points over three games.
He was also named the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Freshman of the Week, and was called to the SEC All-Freshman team.
At the national level, Black represented the United States under-18 basketball team at the 2022 FIBA Under-18 Americas Championship.
Black is likely to be selected in the first-round of the 2023 NBA draft.
