The Tonight Show secretary, Emily Marshall who was also known as the third wife of the Tonight Show bandleader, Doc Severinsen, has been reported dead. She died of lung caner at the age of 79.

She was a secretary for a McMillan & Wife producer at Universal before being hired on The Tonight Show in 1972 as de Cordova’s secretary/assistant.

Marshall also worked for Director CY Howard on Lovers and Other Strangers, and the game show Supermarket Sweep with Producer David Susskind

Born in Columbus on March 24, 1943, to a railway executive, Marshall moved to New York and became an NBC guide who sold tickets for the studio tour in the early ’60s to make a living.
As a creative, she was also credited for creating the 1988-89 CBS Sitcom show Coming of Age, which features several stars including Phyllis Newman, Alan Young, Paul Dooley, Glynis Johns, Kevin Pollak, and Ruta Lee.
She also created 13 episodes of Newhart on CBS, as well as being the writer for Rhoda on the same network. Some of her works also include WKRP in Cincinnati, Angie on ABC, an episode of The Larry Sanders Show on HBO, and more.
