Why did Eddie Vedder change his name?

Eddie Vedder is an American singer, musician, songwriter, and the lead vocalist and one of three guitarists for the rock band Pearl Jam.

Eddie Vedder was born Edward Louis Severson III. However, he changed his name to his mother’s maiden name Vedder after his mother’s divorce and after he learned his true parentage.

Eddie Vedder is widely regarded as one of the most iconic and influential figures in modern rock music. His signature baritone voice, emotionally charged lyrics, and powerful stage presence have earned him a devoted following and critical acclaim.

In the early 1990s, he was invited to join Pearl Jam, a Seattle-based band that had emerged as one of the leading forces in the burgeoning grunge movement.

Throughout his career, Vedder has continued to push boundaries and explore new musical directions, both as a solo artist and as a member of Pearl Jam.

Eddie Vedder released his first solo album as a soundtrack for the film Into the Wild in 2007.  In 2011, he released his second album, Ukulele Songs, as well as a live DVD titled Water on the Road. Earthling, his third solo album, was released in 2022.
