After their 1991 hit album, Decades of Decadence 81-91, his drinking became a serious issue for the band. According to sources, he stopped showing up for rehearsals and bailed on the team on most occasions. Therefore, Sxx, Lee, and Mars decided to kick him off the team in 1992.

In order not to make the public know what was going on at the time, the band released an official statement stating that Neil’s love for race car driving became a priority for him, therefore, he needed to focus on that more and leave the band

He was replaced by John Corabi. Mars and Sixx agreed that Corabi could sing anything at any time that is why he was the right choice of replacement for the band.
