Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the New York City native served as the face of fashion thanks to her long legs and brown hair.

Many modeling agencies rejected young Dickinson in the beginning of her career because they thought her appearance was too out of the ordinary.

Janice Dickinson says she coined the term ‘Supermodel’ in 1979 during a conversation with her manager.

The story goes something like this: Her manager, concerned that Janice was taking on too much work, told her, “You are not Superman.”

To which Janice replied, I am not Superman, I am a supermodel.” And there you have it!

Why did Janice leave Top model?

Janice Dickinson addresses prior statements that she left America’s Next Top Model due to a money disagreement in an interview with Radar.

Previously, she told the New York Times, “I think I was asking for too much.”

Janice confirmed that she didn’t really quit, as was reported. Instead, she says, “I got fired”.

Janice Dickinson says it’s because she “was just telling the truth and I was saving these girls from going out there and being told that they’re too short, too fat, their skin’s not good enough.”
