William Hahn, an American basketball coach who died on April 7, 2023, served as Bob Huggins’ assistant with the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Hahn has coached and recruited 19 future NBA players over his head coaching and assistant coaching careers. He also established a number of school records at Maryland and made many NCAA Tournament trips.

Nonetheless, he received harsh criticism for his involvement in a rape controversy in 2004 while serving as the La Salle University Explorers’ head coach. In 1975, Hahn started working as an assistant coach for Rick Meckfessel at Morris Harvey College. Hahn joined Davidson College’s coaching staff as an assistant in 1976.

Sly Williams was coached by and recruited by Hahn while he was at Rhode Island.

Billy Hahn, a former collegiate basketball head coach and assistant at Maryland who won a national championship, passed away on Friday, according to the Maryland basketball Twitter account.

This week, Hahn experienced a heart attack. He was 69. Hahn spent more than 40 years coaching collegiate basketball, including two stints as head coach. He also played his college game at Maryland. Between 2001 and 2004, he served as the president of La Salle and Ohio University.
