American politician and former superintendent of schools Paul Vallas. He was a Democrat who held the positions of CEO of the School District of Philadelphia and the Chicago Public Schools, superintendent of the Bridgeport Public Schools and the Recovery School District of Louisiana, and budget director for the city of Chicago. Grandson of a Greek immigrant, Vallas grew up in the Roseland neighborhood of Chicago’s South Side. He spent his teenage years in Palos Heights.
