Virginia Jeanne, an Italian American, and Joseph Edward Funicello welcomed Annette Joanne into the world in Utica, New York.

Actress Shelley Fabares remarked, “Annette was really an unbelievable wonderful, kind woman and I shall miss her for the rest of my life. I think my life would have been lot different and surely much lonelier and much less full if I hadn’t had my friendship with Annette.”

The two developed a connection that lasted until Annette Funicello’s death while working on the Disney show in which she starred.

Funicello and Frankie Avalon reconnected for a series of promotional performances to support their movie Return to the Beach in early 1987, when Funicello was about 45 years old.

She started having headaches, balance problems, and dizziness, and it was determined that she had multiple sclerosis.

Funicello passed away at Mercy Southwest Hospital in Bakersfield, California, on April 8, 2013, at the age of 70, as a result of complications related to multiple sclerosis.
