Who composed Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence?

Ryuichi Sakamoto wrote the song for the 1983 movie, Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence. He also composed the song for the 1987 movie The Last Emperor which got him an Oscar and a Grammy.

Sakamoto died at age 71, after several years of battling several forms of cancer. In 2014, he revealed that he was diagnosed with throat cancer. He also shared in 2022 that he had terminal cancer just a year after disclosing that he was suffering from rectal cancer.
