Abdul Aziz Durani: Who Is Salim Durani’s Father?

Indian cricketer Salim Durani, who participated in 29 Test matches between 1960 and 1973, died on April 2, 2023 . Durani was a left-handed all-rounder known for his six-hitting ability. He was also a slow left-arm orthodox bowler. Only he was born in Afghanistan among Indian Test cricketers.

The series victory India had over England in 1961–1962 was attributed to Durani. In their victories at Chennai and Kolkata, respectively, he grabbed 8 and 10 wickets. A decade later, in Port of Spain, he would also play a crucial role in India’s first triumph over the West Indies by dismissing Clive Lloyd and Gary Sobers. With Parveen Babi, he starred in the 1973 movie Charitra. Having won an Arjuna Award, he was the first cricketer.

Abdul Aziz, the father of Salim Durani, was a well-known cricketer who represented India in test matches from 1935 to 1940. Sajid was the name of his relative as well.

The BCCI presented Durani with the C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011, making him the first cricketer to ever get the Arjuna Award.
