Oscar Pistorius told the court that his actions in shooting Steenkamp were influenced by his fear of a home invasion.

He said he had been followed, shot at and hi-jacked while living in South Africa and said he was “simply trying to protect Reeva” as he apologised to her family.

Reeva’s body was cremated at Victoria Park crematorium in Port Elizabeth on February 19, 2013, and the service was conducted by Pastor Kurt Sutton of the Oasis Family Church in Port Elizabeth.
Pistorius was arrested and charged with murder. On November 24, 2017, the Court of Appeal extended Oscar Pistorius’s jail term to 13 years and five months with the possibility of parole in 2023.
