What happened with Roger Clemens?

Roger Clemens is a retired American professional baseball player who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 24 seasons from 1984 to 2007.

Roger  Clemens’ career has been tarnished by allegations of steroid use, which have sparked controversy and legal battles. In 2007, the Mitchell Report was released, which was an investigation into the use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) in MLB.

The Mitchell Report claimed that Clemens used anabolic steroids late in his career, based primarily on testimony from his former trainer, Brian McNamee.

Under oath before the United States Congress, Clemens categorically denied these allegations, prompting congressional leaders to refer his case to the Justice Department on suspicion of perjury.

On August 19, 2010, a federal grand jury in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia indicted Clemens on six felony counts of perjury, false statements, and contempt of Congress.  After a lengthy trial, Clemens was found not guilty on all charges in June 2012.

Despite the verdict, the allegations of steroid use have continued to haunt Clemens’ legacy. Many baseball fans and analysts believe that Clemens’ statistics and achievements are tainted by the allegations.
