Geeta Kapur: Who Is Vivan Sundaram’s Wife?

Geeta Kapur is a noted Indian art critic, art historian, and curator based in New Delhi. She is best known as one of the pioneers of critical art writing in India.

Geeta Kapur was born in 1943, in New Delhi, India. Geeta Kapur is 80 years old as of 2023. Kapur holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Miranda House, University of Delhi (1962).

Geeta Kapur has a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from New York University, New York (1964); and a Master’s degree in Criticism from the Royal College of Art, London (1970).

Geeta Kapur has written various books, including Contemporary Indian Artists (1978), When Was Modernism: Essays on Contemporary Cultural Practice in India (2000), and Critic’s Compass: Navigating Practice (forthcoming).

Geeta Kapur is one of the founder-editors of the Journal of Arts & Ideas (Delhi). She is a member of the Asian Art Council at the Guggenheim Museum, the Asia Art Archive in Hong Kong, and the Kochi-Muziris Biennale.

Geeta Kapur is a Trustee of the Sher-Gil Sundaram Arts Foundation (SSAF), Delhi, and the series editor of Art Documents (SSAF–Tulika Books).

Geeta Kapur was a jury member of the Biennales of Venice (2005), Dakar (2006), and Sharjah (2007). She was awarded the Padma Shri for her contribution to Art by the Government of India in 2009.
