Cilla Black’s manager, Brian Epstein decided to manage other Liverpool musicians. Along with the bands and male singers he signed up for, Epstein chose Cilla as his only female performer.

He suggested her stage name (changing White to Black), so she and her family could keep their privacy.

Cilla became popular first in England and Europe, then in America as the Beatles’ music started the British Invasion there in 1964. One of her first hits Anyone Who Had A Heart, was recorded earlier by American singer, Dionne Warwick.

Did Cilla Black Know The Beatles?

The Beatles played regularly during the early 1960s before finding worldwide fame. During this time, Cilla crossed paths with the band and many others all the time, but they did not yet know the talent she possessed.
