According to his family, he passed away after a severe illness. He was 81 years old at the time of death. A source close to the family also stated that the final funeral rites will be performed on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the Borella Cemetery.

It was also reported that his remains have currently been placed in his house which is located in Ambuldeniya, Nugegoda.
