Did Robert Duvall serve in the military?

Legendary American actor Robert Duvall served two years in the army during the Korean War.

Robert Duvall grew up as a Navy brat, travelling wherever his father was assigned, but he spent much of his childhood in Annapolis, Maryland, home of the United States Naval Academy.

His father wished for the young Robert to attend the academy, but it was not to be. Robert Duvall was not a good student; in his own words, he was only good at acting.

Then, instead of joining the Navy, Duvall enlisted in the Army as a private first class shortly after the Korean War ended in 1953. While stationed at Camp Gordon (later renamed Fort Gordon) in Georgia, Duvall acted in an amateur production of the comedy Room Service in nearby Augusta, Georgia.

Robert Duvall began his professional acting career in Bellport, Long Island, New York, with the Gateway Playhouse, an Equity summer theatre.

His stage debut was arguably in the 1952 season, when he played the Pilot in Laughter In The Stars, an adaptation of The Little Prince, at the Gateway Theatre. Robert Duvall is now considered one of the greatest American actors of all time.
