Who Is Andrew Bailey?

Andrew Bailey is a British central banker and the current Governor of the Bank of England (BOE).

Born on March 30, 1959, in United Kingdom, Bailey has held the position as the governor of the Bank of England since March 2020.

He is a graduate of Queens’ College, Cambridge, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in History, a Masters degree and a PhD from the University of Cambridge.

Bailey began his career as a research officer at the London School of Economics, before he joined the Bank of England in 1985.

Since then, he has served in various capacities, including Chief Cashier, Deputy Governor for Prudential Regulation, and Chief Executive of the Financial Conduct Authority.

In addition, Bailey had previously served as Governor’s Private Secretary, and Head of the International Economic Analysis Division in Monetary Analysis.

Most recently, he held the positions of executive director for banking services and head of the bank’s Special Resolution Unit (SRU).

Bailey recently endorsed the raise of the Bank of England interest rates in order to meet its 2% inflation target.

Bailey’s tenure will come to an end in March 2028.
