Ben Shelly, a former chief of the Navajo Nation, died at the age of 75 after a protracted illness. Shelly oversaw the Navajo Nation from January 2011 to December 2014.

He started a number of significant projects during that time, including the purchase of a coal mine, the construction of an aerial tramway into the Grand Canyon, and the resolution of a water rights dispute with Arizona.

He was renowned for his positive outlook, openness to speak his heart, and commitment to the Navajo people.

Shelly’s family thanked the Navajo community for its outpouring of support and praised him as a great leader who upheld the tradition of his elders by putting the needs of the community first.

Did Ben Shelly have kids? Yes, He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Martha Shelly, as well as five children, 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. The identities of his children are unknown yet.
