Surgery can be used to remove or destroy endometriosis and the most common surgical approach is laparoscopy (key-hole surgery). Surgical options also include laparotomy.

During laparoscopy, a surgeon uses a tiny camera to look inside the pelvis and remove endometrial tissue using specialized tools. Laparotomy involves a larger incision in the abdomen and is typically reserved for more severe cases.
