Nigel Gregory Benn is a former British professional boxer who competed from 1987 to 1996.  Benn is known for his aggressive fighting style and punching power, and he was a two-weight world champion in the middleweight and super-middleweight divisions.

Benn had a professional record of 42 wins (35 by knockout), 5 losses, and 1 draw. He was known for his memorable fights against fellow British boxer Chris Eubank, with whom he had two fights that both ended in draws, as well as against Gerald McClellan, a fight that ended in a controversial victory for Benn.

After retiring from boxing in 1996, Benn became a DJ and appeared on several reality TV shows, including “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!” and “Celebrity Big Brother.” In recent years, he has also been involved in promoting boxing events and coaching young boxers.

Gerald McClellan suffered a brain injury as a result of Nigel Benn’s boxing career. On February 25, 1995, he did engage in a contentious and brutal fight with Gerald McClellan in which McClellan sustained a serious brain injury.

Benn delivered a hard left hook in the tenth round of the fight that brought McClellan to the ground. McClellan managed to stand up despite being seriously hurt and sustaining a brain lesion that rendered him forever incapacitated.

Many people questioned the safety precautions that were in place for the fighters, and the match received harsh criticism for its savagery.

After the bout, Benn, who was greatly impacted by what had occurred to McClellan, announced his retirement from boxing. Since then, he has campaigned to spread awareness of the long-term repercussions of head injuries in the sport of boxing and has been an advocate for more stringent safety regulations in the sport.
