Rear Admiral James Vincent Purcell Goldrick, AO, CSC (1958 – 17 March 2023) was a naval historian, analyst of contemporary naval and maritime affairs, and a senior officer of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).

Upon his retirement from the RAN, Goldrick worked as a fellow at the Sea Power Centre – Australia and as an adjunct professor at the Australian Defence Force Academy’s Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of New South Wales.

Goldrick’s class of twenty-eight had two Kiwis, and they formed a close alliance despite the ups and downs of Naval College life.

In a world where everyone had a moniker, he was simply known as James.

In September 2003, James Goldrick became head of the Australian Defence Force Academy.

In May 2006, he was appointed to rear admiral and assigned as Commander Border Protection.

James Goldrick was named commander of joint education, training, and warfare in May 2008.
