Saint Patrick’s Day is also called Feast of Saint Patrick; Lá Fhéile Pádraig; Patrick’s Day; (St) Paddy’s Day; (St) Patty’s Day (chiefly North America). The holiday also honours and celebrates the rich history and traditions of Ireland.

St. Patrick’s Day is observed on March 17th, which is believed to be the date of St. Patrick’s death in the 5th century. Saint Patrick’s Day has been celebrated in Ireland since the ninth or tenth century.

The true story of St. Patrick’s Day begins with St. Patrick himself, who was born in Britain in the late 4th century and kidnapped by Irish raiders when he was a teenager at the age of 16.

St. Patrick was taken to Ireland as a slave where he worked as a shepherd for several years. However, he escaped and returned to Britain. He later returned around 432 ce to convert the Irish to Christianity.

St. Patrick became a priest and bishop. He spent many years travelling throughout Ireland, preaching the gospel, baptizing new converts, and founding churches and monasteries.
