John and Mary had been linked by Mary’s daughter, Patty.
He was “futures commission merchant executive” and was inducted into the FIA Futures Hall of Fame.
John had retired as CEO of Merrill Lynch Futures. The couple lived together in New Jersey, and had other properties in Manhattan; Spring Lake, New Jersey; and Dennis, Massachusetts.
John passed away on October 8, 2018, at the age of 89.

Mary Higgins Clark was an American author known for writing at least 51 bestselling suspense novels.
Born in Bronx, New York, Clark began writing at a very young age.
Following her husband’s death in 1964, Clark worked for radio houses as a script writer, a secretary, a copy editor, and a female steward at the Pan African Airlines.

Clark’s suspense novels later gained and sold over 100 million copies in the United States.
Some of Clark’s novels include Murder I’m Manhattan, The Melody Lingers On, Death Wears a Beauty Mask and Other Stories, As Time Goes By, All By Myself, Alone, I’ve Got My Eyes on You, Kiss the Girls and Make Them Cry, and many others.
In 2011, Clark “served as the Grand Marshal of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City.”
Clark passed away in Naples, Florida, on January 31, 2020, at the age of 92.
