Bobby Caldwell cause of death

American singer and songwriter Bobby Caldwell passed away on March 14, 2023, in his sleep, after a long illness.  He was aged 71.

In the last five years, Bobby  has been unable to use his feet due to “neuropathy and a ruptured tendon in his ankle.”

Who Was Bobby Caldwell?

Bobby has was a musician known for R&B, soul, jazz, and adult contemporary music.

Born on August 15, 1951, in New York,  Caldwell first released the popular hit single “What You Won’t Do for Love” from his debut album Bobby Caldwell in 1978.

The song eventually became his signature tune.

Since then, Caldwell had not just written songs for himself but for other artists, including the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single “The Next Time I Fall” for Amy Grant and Peter Cetera.

Other hit songs of his include On Blue Condition (1996), Come Rain or Come Shine (1999), The Consummate Bobby Caldwell (2010) and After Dark (2014).

Caldwell scored songs for the movies Back to School (“Educated Girl”), Mac and Me (“Take Me, I’ll Follow You”), Salsa (“Puerto Rico”) and its sequel (“Every Teardrop”),  Night of the Comet (“Never Give Up”), Simone (2001) and Lake Boat (2002).

Aside from music, Caldwell appeared in the 1988 film Salsa, and played Frank Sinatra in the Las Vegas musical The Rat Pack is Back.

In Japan, Caldwell is called “Mister Adult Oriented Rock (AOR)”, and as far back as 1992, he won the award for Best Foreign Artist at the 34th Japan Record Awards.
