Bud Grant was a well-decorated athlete and football coach who also played in the National Basketball Association. As a coach, he took the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League to the Super Bowl four times and lost all four titles. He was the head coach of the team from 1967 to 1983 and in 1985.

He took the Vikings to 8-6 in 1968 to win the division and make their first playoff appearance. The following year, the team won the NFL championship and advanced to Super Bowl IV. Unfortunately, they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Vikings went to the Super Bowl, three times in four years by 1983.
