Chael Sonnen faced Rashad Evans on November 16, 2013, at UFC 167, however, he lost the fight via TKO in the first round.

In December 2007, Chael Sonnen fought Paulo Filho for the WEC Middleweight Championship, however, he lost via a controversial submission at 4:55 of the second round.

In his first fight for the UFC since UFC 60, Chael Sonnen was submitted by jiu-jitsu ace Demian Maia via triangle choke submission at UFC 95.

On January 21, 2017, Chael Sonnen made his promotional debut for  Bellator MMA in a light heavyweight match against former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and UFC Hall-of-Famer Tito Ortiz in the main event at Bellator 170. He lost the fight via submission in the first round.

Chael Sonnen faced Lyoto Machida on June 14, 2019, at Bellator 222 in Bellator’s return to Madison Square Garden, however, he lost the fight via TKO in the second round.
