Fernando Alonso Daz is a Spanish racing driver who currently drives for Aston Martin in Formula One. He won the World Drivers’ Championship for Renault in 2005 and 2006, and he has also driven for McLaren, Ferrari, and Minardi.

He was selected as the 2006 Autosport International Racing Driver of the Year. For his performance in 2017 Indy 500, Alonso was named Rookie of the Year.

He was admitted into the FIA Hall of Fame in 2017 as an F1 World Champion and again in 2019 as an FIA World Endurance Champion.

This became Alonso the first driver to be inducted into the FIA Hall of Fame twice.

Why did Fernando Alonso leave Ferrari?

In 2014, Alonso had major disputes with team principal Marco Mattiacci and left Ferrari after contract discussions to stay with the club failed.

“At one point, the environment inside the team wasn’t fantastic. [For this reason], I chose to end my association with Ferrari, despite the fact that I had two years left on my contract. Because that was the greatest thing for both sides”. He stated.

He returned to McLaren on a three-year contract with no opt-out provisions from 2015 to 2017.

Who replaced Alonso at Ferrari?

Fernando Alonso formally stated that he would quit Ferrari at the end of the 2014 season, to be replaced by Sebastian Vettel.

The Spaniard’s fifth season with the Scuderia came to a close this weekend at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix when he finished on the podium 44 times and won 11 times for a total of 1186 points.
